Google Headquarters
Mountain View, CA (USA)
Emmanuelle Moureaux created a series of three artworks named "MIRAGE" welcoming people at each entrance of Google’s headquarters at the Googleplex. After five years of planning, the 60 meter long artwork of 100 vibrant colors became part of the landscape.
The Googleplex is the corporate headquarters of Google and its parent company, Alphabet Inc. It is located in Mountain View, California.
Infinite overlapping "0" represent infinite possibilities
"MIRAGE" expresses the essence of Google — a universe of infinite possibilities — which is inspired by the mathematical number, Googolplex. This is represented through an infinite number of overlapping zeros in 100 different shades of colors that appear to be floating in a three-dimensional grid, with vibrant colors that evoke joy, diversity, and unity.
At each entrance, the orientation of the zeros has been calculated according to the characteristics of each area, creating an intricate design of overlapping lines of zeros. Walking around the Googleplex, the zeros continuously appear and disappear, revealing infinite expressions.
Zero is a canvas for new creation and the void in symbol "0" reminds us that out of emptiness come infinite possibilities.
Sculptural entrances connect people with nature
Viewers can witness the scale and magnitude of this mathematical numeral, translated into 100 colors. Lines of zeros seem floating in a three dimensional grid, creating a welcoming, colorful air, or a mirage, that connects space to space and people to people.
The artwork has been carefully designed with the void of "0", creating a constant sense of connection to people and nature.
100 colors woven into a landscape
As part of Emmanuelle Moureaux’s "100 colors" installation series, "MIRAGE" creates a landscape composed of 100 different shades of colors, beautifully shining in the California sky.
Illuminated at night, it almost appears as if only 100 colors seem floating at the Googleplex, presenting a completely different appearance than day time.
Message behind "MIRAGE"
Moureaux says "Color is universal, borderless and infinite."
"MIRAGE" is the manifestation of diversity, equality and unity.
The title of the work, "MIRAGE" expresses the hope that a colorful mirage will rise in the hearts of those who see this work, sublimate into a dream that emits a magnificent light, and eventually be realized in the real world.
100 colors no.52 "MIRAGE" for Google is part of Emmanuelle’s "100 colors" installation series.
