Benjamin Moore, famous for wide-ranging colors and high-quality painting, has opened a flagship store named “COLOR STATION” in Seoul. For this new space, Emmanuelle created a permanent installation expressing the infinite possibilities of colors. This is the 44th in the “100 colors” series and the first “100 colors” installation in Korea.
Located on the main street of the Gangnam district in Seoul, the building has been newly constructed for the showroom. The interior space has been designed in a white color scheme, reminiscent of a gallery. The over 5 meters high colorful installation, composed of 2,300 circular modules regularly aligned on a three-dimensional grid, floats in the middle of the three-story atrium space. The 12 cm diameter acrylic circles are painted in 100 shades of colors, each module shining in the sunlight entering the room. Inside each circular module, there are cutout numbers from 0 to 9. The orderly arrangement of countless colors and numbers represents the infinite possibilities of color.
There is a hidden surprise in this installation. The bottom layer of white circles has alphabet letters cut out creating the word “ONE MILLION”. Although humans can distinguish millions of colors, most people limit colors to the colors of the rainbow. Through this artwork Emmanuelle wants people to feel and open their eyes to see more colors and be aware of the millions of colors in our surroundings.
100 colors no.44 “ONE MILLION” is part of Emmanuelle’s "100 colors" installation series.
