Shinjuku Station
Tokyo (Japan)
A new “100 colors” installation was unveiled at “Shinjuku Creators Festa”, an art event that transforms public spaces around Shinjuku Station to showcase various art scenes.
"100 colors" is an installation series began in 2013, which forms space using 100 shades of colors. This time, Emmanuelle has created a colorful landscape - colorscape - about 60 meters in length at Suica Penguin Square outside JR Shinjuku Station Shin-Minami Exit.
When viewed from a distance, one colorful gradation appears on the glass surface above the railway track, and as one gets closer it turns out that the gradation is made of colorful "SHINJUKU" letters. Two girls and one cat are hiding among these crowds of letters. Looking at the installation from the Shin-Minami Exit, the railway and the trains appears through the colors, and then when looking from the East Deck located right in front, the beautiful gradation of 100 colors overlaps with the city and creates new scenery.
Looking up from the platform of Shinjuku Station, it seems as though a stream of rainbow has appeared in the sky. “100 colors” invites Shinjuku audiences to enjoy the full spectrum of colors, became a new iconic addition to Shinjuku.
