TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK 2014
Wearing 100 colors – it is an experimental approach to experience the sensation of color. The elegant silhouette of mino brings a refreshing breeze to the city.
“Mino” is a traditional Japanese straw rain-cape, made by bundles of weaved straw strands, having multiple layers to provide protection and warmth from the harsh climate. “Layers” as an inspiration, Emmanuelle has employed long and thin delicate strands of papers in 100 shades of colors to create mino in two different forms. The presence of mino gives colors in the scene, as the surface strands gently lift up in the air. Colors are layered precisely in unique order, having 30 layers in every bundle. With motion, colors sitting behind are unveiled as the surface layers gently float up in the air, revealing 100 colors instantaneously. Women’s mino uses 3450 strands of colored papers each sliced into 5mm wide to express softness and daintiness through the graceful movement. Men’s mino employs 1140 strands of 20mm wide papers assembled together to express the sense of oneness and boldness within the delicate texture of papers. Shoulder bag uses 5mm wide strands that flutter gently in the wind, faintly showing 100 colors.
Wearing mino, the colorful and airy lines flow pleasantly, leaving traces of colorful wind in our ordinary cityscape.
